Fouth of July and 37 Weeks!

I hope you had a wonderful 4th!  We got together with the birthday girl for the first time since Alex was born, maybe even before!

Happy 28th Birthday Amber!  Hope it was a good one!

Yesterday I was in for my 37 week appointment.  I wasn't going to let them check me - but you know, curiosity...So I know I'm 1cm dilated, soft, but not thinning.  Which is OK by me!  Some progress is good, but we don't want too much till after Saturday.  The big wedding day.  Anytime after that, he is FREE to make his appearance.

Which is good - I think he is dropping even more, and he's giving me LOTS of pressure.  Love this baby already, but he can come out when ready!

Hope everything is well in cyberspace!  Anything interesting going on?

Kids say the darndest things...Alex edition

Since we moved into this house almost 2 years ago, Alex has had an obsession with the boy next door, Andre.  He's 16.  But at least she isn't going to marry him anymore (a post for another day).

Anyway, here is her latest tale:

Daddy: Are you and Matt playing with Andre?
Alex: No, he is in Japan.
Daddy: Japan?  Are you sure?
Alex: Yeah, but he should be back in about an hour.
Mommy: An hour?  Hmm, Maybe I should ask Mrs Ruth where he is.
Alex: You can't she drove him to Japan.

Bad Blogger and 36 Weeks

Boy, remembering to update this thing is harder than I thought. But, I'll use the preggo brain card on this one.

36 weeks!!   Yikes!!  Other than SPD this time again, and Braxton Hicks contractions, this has been a pretty uneventful pregnancy.

So, what to do when your 36 weeks?  I'll tell you what I should be doing: cleaning, washing laundry, and generally laying low.  After all, we don't want to go into labor before July 10 and my sisters wedding.  What did I ACTUALLY do?  Take the kids to the zoo - by myself!! Yes, I'm crazy!! But it was fun!

And - we are going walking around a park tomorrow with some other mom's.   Looking forward to that, too, even though it is gonna be blasted hot!!  About 78* by 11:00.  oh well.

And the 4th of July coming up!!  We were supposed to be camping, but dad gave himself a hernia and is now awaiting surgery.  So, BBQ at the sisters house!!  We'll have to see about fire works, since it is so hot.

Time to wrap this up and lay down for a bit.  In ending - what are your plans for the 4th?

Kids say the darndest things...Alex edition

At lunch today, Alex told me that when SHE is the mom, every lunch will be hot dogs and every dinner will be McDonald's.

Boy is she in for a surprise!!

Farmers Market

With the early spring we had, the Minneapolis Farmers Market was able to open early this year!!  So we went - even if just to check it out, and walk around looking at the vendors.  If the wind would have died down it would have been the perfect outing, as it was, it was just a tad chilly.
The kids had a blast looking at all the fruits and veggies (even if they were shipped in - blah!) the local plants, sampling cheese, trying the honey pixie sticks - yum!

I planned on taking pics, but my camera wasn't working right.... :(.  It started working again, but right at the end - so no pics for today....

Till next time! TTFN!

Making the Best of it

Today was just one of those days.  It seemed to start out perfect, but went down hill from there.  Family stuff, you know how that goes.  I won't get into it here, but suffice to say - I still have a headache from all the crying.

But when life hands you lemons - make

So tonight I decided to relish my kidlets.  pizza party on the floor, while Alice in Wonderland plays. Next we are cuddling up on the couch, eating popcorn, and watching Twilight.  I'm not sticking to bed time.  I'm just enjoying the snuggly warmth that you can only get from your kids.

So, I'm out.  Time to get the popcorn out of the microwave, and settle down.  Hope you enjoyed your Saturday, and that it was better than mine, but ended just as nice!!

What's for Dinner (New Recipe)

We LOVE to try new recipes!!  Sometimes they are fabulous!!  And sometimes they flop, big time.

Most of the time, though, they are good, and just need a little bit of tweaking to fit our likes and personal preferences.

Tonight we tried a recipe from the Pioneer Woman - Ree Drummond.  Chicken with Tomatoes and Garlic. Yummo yum!!  Seriously, this was so easy, and most everything I had (or should have had) on hand.

**Really, who runs out of canned tomatoes, and doesn't know it!!**

Besides the fact that it was REALLY yummy, we have two tweaks to this recipe.

1) We're gonna take off the skin next time.  Because it spends an hour in the oven, it doesn't get crispy.  And chicken skin should be crispy, dang it!!  Instead, we are gonna dredge the chicken pieces in flour before frying to protect the meat.
2) When I pulled it out of the oven, there was a layer of grease on top, and that just didn't appeal to me.  So, probably gonna cut the oil down to 1.5 tablespoons.  Loosing the skin will help in this, too.

So here you go:
Chicken with Tomatoes and Garlic  It got the Fluharty thumbs UP!

And if you've never been to The Pioneer Woman site - stay and look around!  You won't be disappointed!!

Have you ever had . . .

One of those days? Of course you have, we all have.  Stressed, run ragged, ready for bed . . .

But wouldn't trade it for anything.

This is life with kids.  This is my life, our life, that I want to share with you.

In the next few days, I hope to give a post on each one of use, so you can get to know us.  Till then . . .

Enjoy the moment!!
